    Description

    The Yamaha CX-2 features continuously variable loudness control, pure direct switch for purest source sound, subsonic filter to cut out undesirable low frequency signals, a MM/MC phono stage, Video signal input/output, remote control capability and AC outlets.

    After the gain in size and multiple functions of its preamps throughout the 1980s (CX-1000, CX-10000), Yamaha went slim-line again with two versions of the same preamp :
    strictly audio (CX-1) and conveniently audio-video (CX-2).

    Both were part of the ToP-ART series : Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology.

    The differences in specs between the CX-1 and CX-2 do show that the addition of composite / S-Video video circuitry in the CX-2 was made at the expense of audio performance…

    The motorized volume pot is nevertheless a 4-gang ALPS, a model used in manymany components of the time. And the pre-out is a low 47 Ohm – good.

    Anyway – pretty rare, perhaps due to a fairly uninviting design, but the CX-2 is Yamaha’s last strictly 2-channel preamplifier and still worthwhile.
