UE-5 and UE-5B speaker cables: So good that, without a direct side-by-side comparison, you’ll never know you’re not listening to XLO’s Limited Edition – universally recognized as “The Best in the World.” Except for that one product, the performance of this cable is absolutely unrivaled, and, with that one exception, it may never be excelled. UE-5 features 6.5 gauge (AWG)construction, from 100% Laboratory Grade copper insulated and cored entirely with DuPont Teflon and Teflon-variant materials. Unlike any other XLO cable, UE-5 speaker cable has either six (UE-5) or seven (UE-5B) conductors, and is intended to be either single-wired, bi-wired, or tri-wired, all within a single cable. UE-5 is also the only speaker cable in the world with a model (UE-5B) specifically designed for balanced output amplifiers. That’s what the seventh conductor is for: It’s a special internal shielding network that, when used with balanced output amplifiers, acts like more than twenty interlocking coils, to trap current-induced noise between the “Hot” and “Cold” legs of the circuit and dump it to chassis ground. The result can be an improvement in signal-tonoise ratio of as much as 12dB, and the improvement in sonics and detail resolution can be simply amazing! (Note: UE-5B’s special construction functions by taking advantage of the fact that a balanced circuit has no true ground, but that, instead, each of the two amplifier output terminals acts as “ground” for the other. This is not the case with conventional (unbalanced output) amplifiers, which DO have a true ground, and will therefore derive no benefit from UE-5B’s special construction.)
