With both single ended and balanced inputs and outputs, this very flexible preamp has a very clean sound. When partnered with the matching KAV-250a stereo amp, it was a rocking $5,000 combo. But on its own, you will immediately identify Krell&rsquo;s detailed and clean sound from its KAV-250p. There are no tone controls to artificially boost certain frequencies but you probably won&rsquo;t need to anyway. The Krell was punchy when the need arises and offered a decent soundstage.
